The Forums are a great networking opportunity for businesses to get to know each other, learn about key issues impacting on the business environment and give their views about the critical topics of the day. The Forums are held close to the town centre and are hosted by the Bury President, Andrew Roberts of Pennine Telecom .
Andrew also chairs the Local Council, a group of Bury-based businesspeople, to agree themes for the Forums and ensure that Bury’s issues are considered by the Chamber’s Policy and Campaign Committee and main Chamber Council.
The key issues being raised by businesses in Bury are:
Understanding the plans for development and regeneration around Bury with a focus on improving the business environment and addressing HR issues;
Improving the opportunities for young people through apprenticeships, and improving the access to skills training to support the key industries particularly engineering and manufacturing;
Explaining and improving the opportunities for Bury businesses to export, particularly to growing economies like China;
Exploring the opportunities to improve transport and travel around the town centre.
There is regular engagement with key stakeholders across the city including Bury Council, Bury College, local MPs, and businesses big and small.
