The Chamber of Commerce has been moving towards a sector structure for delivery of its services - to provide even more services to our growing membership in the Construction sector. We are guided by a dedicated Sector Council for the Construction industry.

Recent service developments to date include the following:

• We are working in partnership with Pinsent Masons to deliver a series of monthly events for the Construction industry. Find out more here.
• We have published a response and action plan to help businesses battle the worst effects of the current economic downturn.  ‘Action for Business' puts in place a blueprint for future economic success.  The document contains 12 calls to action, which we believe are necessary to begin to address the effects of the downturn now being felt by many businesses. They cover a series of proposals designed to ensure businesses have as much protection as possible to ensure their immediate survival as well as longer-term increased prospects for growth. 
  
• Recruiting and Training Apprentices We continue to recruit and place apprentices across a range of industry disciplines and we are able to access funding for training in the workplace across a number of different areas to ensure your workforce have up-to-date skills that make a difference.  We have invested heavily in our newly built SkillCentre in Trafford Park, providing access to state of the art training facilities for young people, adults and businesses. The SkillCentre embrace our aspirations to improve the quality and provision of flexible training in Greater Manchester.  The SkillCentre offers your business a recruitment and training facility for Apprentices in construction as well as the ability to train current staff.

• We have developed a range of training programmes designed to support you in the day to day running of your business. Programmes include Building a Better Business, financial training, health & safety, first aid, fire regulations, fire marshal training through to Management and Director training and development.
  
• Sector Expertise. Our industry-experienced Business Advisors and Trainers/Assessors understand the challenges faced by businesses in the construction sector and we have applied this expertise to provide a service designed to boost your business and staff potential.
  
• We have developed a new insurance package with Swinton Insurance where our Members are receiving up to 20% discount on their insurance premiums as well as taking up new packages that insure business against common problems felt by the sector, such as, late payments and payment defaults. • We are currently updating our construction sector networking events. The events will help you keep up to date with current legislation and best practice to enable you to learn new ways of working to increase productivity whilst networking with like-minded companies.  Don't forget our highly popular Building and Development Lunches. Services provided through Construction Industry Solutions are available to non-Chamber members, but Chamber members do receive substantial discounts on many of the services provided.
