Our Work


Chamber Councils and Committees

If you want to take an active role within the local business community – helping to influence policy and steer decision making – then we can get you involved through our councils and committees. Each one is focused on a local area or policy topic.

The work and focus for the Chamber's local councils and committees is determined by the main Chamber Council, which meets quarterly to discuss the policy issues impacting upon Chamber members. To find out more about the Chamber Council, click here.


Committee Activity

Over the next few weeks our member-led policy committees will be meeting to discuss the latest issues affecting business and identify ways to take Action for Business.

  • The Transport & Infrastructure Committee met on 11th May. To catch up on the meeting click on the link below which will take you direct to the Committee's homepage.
  • The Green Economy Group meets on 17th May and will be looking at how the Green Deal may impact on business and looking at opportunities for the construction sector linked to sustainable development.
  • The Economic Committee meets on 17th May and will continue their work on developing an active industrial strategy to boost funds to help growth, increase exports and tackle long running skills issues as well as prepare for this quarter's QES.
  • The Employment & Skills Committee meets on 17th May to develop further work on rolling out the succesful Education Engagment programme trialled in Stockport; the Chamber's newly launched skills survey will be discussed and upcoming changes to allow the delivery of benefit payments via payroll systems will also be on the agenda.
  • The Property & Construction Committee will meet on 25th May to look at the impact of the new National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) on business and develop ongoing work to make sure that the construction sector is prepared for the introduction of Building Information Modelling (BIM).

The Chamber's Local Councils

In addition to the specialist Committees detailed above we have ten councils mapped to the Local Authority areas of Greater Manchester each working to tackle local issues:

Members take an active role in steering their work. Our Local Councils next meet in June and details of their meetings will be posted here shortly.

Our Sector Councils work hard to drive the development of their industries forward. Run by representatives from the sector for the sector, they are the place to address industry specific concerns. We currently host Sector Councils for:
