BACKUP North West

BACKUP North West (formerly Bolton Young Persons Housing Scheme) has supported homeless young people for 27 years.

It is award-winning charity which specialises in supporting young people and enabling them to develop the right skills and experience to live independently, safely.

The charity has projects across Bolton that collectively accommodate 100 young people at any one time. It supports 350+ per year. The services range from intensive 24 hours a day to semi-independent and everything in between; tailored to the young person. The aim is to make sure that young people are not homeless and not at risk. Offering safe accommodation and support means also reduces mental ill health, debt, domestic abuse, offending, unemployment, anti-social behaviour and improves well-being, education, job prospects and quality of life.

In addition to this, BACKUP North West does a number of things that are not really about housing but more to do with making young people feel valued. This includes; youth group activities four nights a week, food parcels when a young person moves in with toiletries and, if required, clothing and shoes, day trips or activities off site every six weeks, free sanitary products for all young women, equipment and travel expenses for college and more. This is all paid for through fundraising or the charity's Guardians Scheme. An individual or business can become a Guardian for £500 a year; find out more here.
