Wigan Youth Zone
Wigan Youth Zone has been inspiring and empowering young people to fulfil their potential since 2013. Its state of the art youth hub serves more than a thousand young people every week, where a combination of our inspirational staff team and unparalleled facilities energise our members, fill them with confidence, equip them with new skills and knowledge and prepare them for life. Wigan Youth Zone works with all young people, regardless of their circumstance or background, to make the most of their talents and maximise their opportunities. The charity is open to all young people from Wigan and Leigh aged 8 to 19 (up to 25 with a disability), striving to offer something for everyone, regardless of their interests or abilities.
Wigan Youth Zone's facilities are extensive and give its members (c3500) the opportunity to engage in a wide-ranging programme; it has every activity imaginable from sports facilities, to art, dance and music. In addition to its universal offer (which is open 357 days a year), it has a range of other services including counselling, mentoring, life skills training & advice, employability and enterprise programmes, days out and holiday clubs. Wigan Youth Zone has a superb team of trained staff and volunteers who are there to ensure that all our members feel comfortable, safe and most of all have a fantastic time whilst they’re at the Youth Zone.
Wigan Youth Zone provides the borough’s young people with somewhere to go, something to do and someone to talk to and its vision is simple; to inspire and empower young people in Wigan and Leigh to fulfil their potential.
The importance of this provision is essential given the local context the young people live in. Wigan is ranked in the top 30% of local authorities for deprivation and the town suffers from higher than the national average levels of worklessness, smoking, excessive alcohol intake and obesity. Wigan Youth Zone aims to make a difference every time a young person walks through its doors and by doing so we give young people a chance to enjoy their childhood, get a better start to life and prepare for adulthood.
