We are currently highlighting the buildings that have been shortlisted for the Greater Manchester Chamber Building of the Year Award 2020.
This time we are focusing on The Manchester Nightingale Hospital. The temporary hospital was constructed in response to COVID-19 within the existing Manchester Central facilities.
The hospital was delivered in 13 days and comprises:
- 750 beds
- 14,500 sq metres of flooring
- 149km of power & data cable
- 3.4km walls/partitions
- 7.24km medical gas pipes
- 6,840 power/data points
The construction of the Manchester Nightingale Hospital demonstrates the skills and capabilities of the north west construction sector. Design team, contractors and supply chain partners were mobilised to immediately start construction with no signed off specification or design – not the way construction projects are delivered. The design approach had to be changed to build and then verify by design.
This project demonstrates what can be achieved with a team all having to work together at pace.
The aim of the Building of the Year Award is to recognise a building’s contribution to Greater Manchester in terms of construction and development.
The award will be presented at the Chamber Property & Construction Awards Dinner on 14th October 2021.
