Betfred has been announced as the headline sponsor for this year’s Manchester Midnight Walk event in aid of St Ann’s Hospice - the sixth year they have shown their support by sponsoring the event.

The charity’s flagship fundraising event, which is returning for its thirteenth year, will take place on Friday 26th April. The fun and entertainment will start and end at Manchester Cathedral, and participants will take on a 10km sponsored walk which passes some of the city’s most famous landmarks.

Chief Executive of St Ann’s, Eamonn O’Neal, said: “The Manchester Midnight Walk is our biggest fundraising event of the year and participants have raised more than £2million for our patients in the years since its launch.

“As a charity, we are incredibly grateful to Betfred for agreeing to be our headline sponsor for this year’s walk. Fred and the team at Betfred are always so supportive of the hospice, and are so generous in both their monetary donations and the time they give in support of St Ann’s too. Thanks a million to them on behalf of all of our staff and volunteers, and of course from our patients and their loved ones too. Their support helps us make a real difference to their lives.”

Betfred’s Brand Manager Natalie Bradford said: “Having participated in last year’s midnight walk both myself and the team are really looking forward to working with St Ann’s Hospice again on a fabulous fundraiser. Betfred are passionate about supporting such great causes within the local community, the turnout was great last year and we hope we can help St Ann’s raise even more money to help people in 2019.”

Eamonn added: “As the thousands of people who have taken part in the event in previous years know, the walk is a real highlight of the calendar each year. We’re taking its famous black and yellow colour theme one step further this year too, by encouraging walkers to come dressed as Manchester bees. The city centre is sure to be buzzing and a hive of activity, and we’d love as many people as possible to sign up to come along. Don’t worry if fancy dress isn’t your thing though, it’s optional and everyone is welcome.”

The event has pulled in the crowds every year since it began, creating a unique late-night party atmosphere. Many walkers take part in memory of lost loved ones, whilst others join in simply for a night of fun and fundraising.

Interested walkers can sign up to take part in the 10km moonlit stroll now, by visiting the website www.mmwalk.org.uk or calling 0161 498 3631. A special early bird rate is available for keen walkers who book their place early.

Eamonn said: “We all know what an amazing community spirit people in our great city have, and it’s always on display at the walk – it’s such an incredible sight to see so many people out walking in support of other people, passing local landmarks and celebrating all that is great about Manchester.”
