Children’s Charity, “When You Wish Upon a Star” officially celebrates it’s 30th Birthday this year, and despite the devastating impact of Coronavirus on planned celebrations, the charity wants to thank their amazing supporters and friends who have helped make the wishes of over 18,500 children throughout that time come true.

The charity had planned to host a series of 30thcelebrations and fundraising events across the country to help raise crucial funds. However, due to the outbreak of Covid-19 they have all had to be cancelled along with the Children’s Wishes with the Charity suffering a significant loss of income.

Founded in 1990 by Barbara White OBE, the charity grants magical wishes to children aged between 4 – 16 years with life threatening illnesses. Those wishes have included trips to Disneyland in Florida, Swimming with Dolphins, meeting their favourite celebrity or simply enjoying the chance to chat to friends from their hospital beds with a gift of an ipad.

Barbara White, Founder and “Fairy Godmother” said ”a young girl named Johanna who wanted to go to Florida was my inspiration to set up the charity all those years ago and since then I have met some amazing children and parents, fulfilled so many wishes including playing with cheetahs in the wild, flights on Concorde and a blessing from the Pope.

We are devastated that we have had to postpone our special 30th Anniversary events this year as it has had a direct impact on our ability to grant the wishes of so many deserving children across the UK. The children were so looking forward to their wishes and are naturally very sad that we will not be able to fulfil them unless we are able to raise the funds to do so. I hope that all our amazing supporters will continue to help raise as much as they can to ensure all of the children see their Wish granted soon”.

The Charity have sent their Wish Children a special 30th Birthday Gift hoping the gifts will bring a smile to them and their families in what has been a very difficult time during lockdown. They are now encouraging supporters to sign up for their Christmas activities which can be found on their website at
