Chamber member DMR Training and Consultancy Ltd has been busy over the last year making the most of Chamber events and networking opportunities, with great results for the business.
Managing Director, Dave Radley, is a regular attendee at construction events and is always willing to share his knowledge and experience of the sector.
He said: “Building a business is hard work, but it can be made easier if you know where to look for help. I certainly found that help with GM Chamber. The number and variety of networking events available to me as a chamber member has dramatically boosted my business network and has allowed me to get in front of key employers I might not otherwise have had the opportunity to meet. As a specialist training provider we aim to deliver what employers really need and plug their skills gaps. To do that we need to stay connected with employers and keep up to date with their requirements - being a member of organisations such as the Chamber and CITB etc we can do just that."
Building on the success of their specialist Roofing Academy, local construction industry training provider DMR are now putting their full support behind the need to grow Dry Lining training provision across the North West. Recent research by CITB and reports from construction employers have highlighted the concern that the supply of appropriate Dry Lining training is falling far short of demand.
Dry Lining has long been a core area of provision for DMR, with the Managing Director himself starting his career in this industry. Now DMR is committing more resource to this training provision to support the requirements of construction employers, as MD Dave Radley explains: “When employers and industry experts at CITB tell us there is a shortage of Dry Lining training provision, we listen and we act. We are committed to improving the training provision available for the construction industry both in terms of quality and specialist skills covered. When needs are identified we are ready to respond. We have the expertise, flexibility and adaptability to quickly scale up or down provision according to industry demands.” Dave Radley, Managing Director of DMR Training & Consultancy Ltd
Addressing the Right Skills Gap
DMR is fast becoming known as the construction training provider for specialist areas. DMR believes that the key to addressing more skills gaps is by identifying and offering the correct type of training, which could be missing, and by delivering apprenticeships that are more suited to modern methods of working. Skills gaps aren’t always simply the result of a lack of candidates for trades, they can be caused by lack of appropriate training within those trades too. By adopting more suitable frameworks DMR aims to fill the skills gaps left by the older, more traditional qualifications.
DMR’s provision has now been boosted by the acquisition of additional facilities in Wigan, located alongside their successful Roofing Academy. So as well as improving training provision by addressing specific skills training gaps DMR is increasing its capacity to deliver more of the right kind of training.
Space for the Specialists
There is no doubt that the colleges do a great job covering the popular, traditional and standard construction trades, which are still in great demand, but there is clearly room in the market for independent training providers, such as DMR, to offer specialist skills and qualifications - as employers are quickly discovering.
DMR has the ability to tailor training provision to the specific needs of each employer and doesn’t subscribe to the philosophy that ‘one size fits all’. So if you find that the training provision you currently have access to is falling short of what you need then speak to DMR, we’ll find a skills solution for your business.
