Fat Media founding members Dominic Williams and David Whiteford have just launched a new hosting company with old friend and ex-colleague Tony Cheetham, owner and MD of OddSphere. The company delivers clients a no-fuss hosting package with experts who have first-hand experience of growing a digital business in the north.

The trio have left Fat Media in succession over the last 3 years, and in 2017 decided to regroup and deliver something refreshing.

David Whiteford explains: “Between us, we have the perfect skillsets and years of experience and decided we could deliver a hosting platform the way we think it should be. In our experience, customers want to speak to the people doing the work, not a salesperson.”

As a brand, Northern Bloc celebrates the northern economy, work ethic and casual-friendly approach.

Director Dom said: “Northern Bloc really allows us to celebrate our roots in the northern digital economy and proudly support other companies who want to grow, just like we’ve done in the past.”

Northern Bloc has invested in over £100,000 worth of software and equipment and already has clients in Manchester, Lancaster and Liverpool signed up. This is thanks to a team that’s already popular in the northern tech industry and the hard work the team has put into building a reliable “overengineered” hosting platform, a 24-hour support system and strong rapport with clients.

Windows hosting is available for individual companies or agencies who need to host websites for multiple clients. Simple packages are split into Bloc 1, Bloc 2 and Bloc 3, based on the amount of power a client needs.

Northern Bloc head office is situated in Manchester City Centre near St Peter’s Square, and the servers are located in the “Knowledge Quarter” of Manchester, near the two universities.

Northern Bloc Director and OddSphere MD Tony Cheetham says, “We chose Manchester as our base of operations because its central to the northern powerhouse and has a thriving digital economy which fits perfectly with our ethos. Manchester also has excellent connectivity and a wide availability of technical skills.”

Whilst Northern Bloc offers hosting anywhere in the UK and beyond, the team and its values are rooted in a northern powerhouse background, which inspired the theme, design and brand message of the company.

The Northern Bloc website states: “The Northern Powerhouse is an economy of over 15 million consumers, 175,000 business investors, 8 universities, one-third of the UK’s apprentices, over 65,000 start-ups in 2014 and £60 billion worth of exports to over 100 countries. We’re proud to be one of the many working cogs in this booming economy and excited to help you reap the benefits too.”
