Ten-year old Finlay and sister Skye (8) have been committed supporters of Willow Wood since the Hospice cared for their grandma, Beryl Coggins in 2017.
They’ve never forgotten the support given to Beryl, and how they were able to spend as much time as they wanted in her room with her. It was coming up to Christmas when she was cared for, and Finlay still remembers how he videoed the beautifully illuminated gardens so she could see the festive decorations.
The children often help their mum, Lisa Knowles, distribute leaflets and posters in and around Glossop, but as well as spreading the word about Willow Wood, they wanted to raise some funds to help other patients like their grandma. Lisa contacted the Co-op in Simmondley who were very pleased to be able to help, and the three spent four hours just outside the store entrance on Saturday 9 October.  As well as handing out information about upcoming fundraising events, like the Firewalk, the Dinner & Dance and the Willow Wood Winners Lottery, the family had a couple of collecting cans handy, and the generous shoppers helped them raise the grand total of £156.73.
The three were thrilled to bits with the amount raised, and Anthony Lord, head of income generation said: “We’re so proud that these two young children still remember what Willow Wood did for their family, and they are wonderful ambassadors for the Hospice. Our sincere thanks for all they do for us.”

Willow Wood are busy organising their Winter Fete, but this year it will be held at Bower Fold on Mottram Road, Stalybridge on Saturday 13 November.
Fundraising administrator Susan Wicks explained: “Given the number of people who attend our Fetes, we wouldn’t be able to maintain social distancing guidelines at the Hospice this year, but didn’t want to disappoint our supporters who look forward so much to the variety of Christmas goods on sale.  Bower Fold is a fantastic location with plenty of space for all the different stalls, including, of course, one stocked with our very own range of Willow Wood biscuits, chutneys, jams, fudges and more.
“There’ll be refreshments available and entertainment too, so put the date in your diaries.
And we still have a few spaces available, so if you’d like to book a stall for just £25 please email fundraising@willowwood.info now.”
