Bolton based law firm, Momentum Legal, set themselves an adrenaline fuelled challenge in April to support local charity, Bolton Lads and Girls Club (“BLGC”), raise money for their annual fundraiser day. Cake sales and sponsored walks were deemed not enough of a challenge and so the team of four decided to take on the world’s fastest Zip Wire in Bethesda, Wales with a self-set target of £1000.
BLGC has been enriching young lives for over 128 years, ensuring every young person has the opportunity to be the best they possibly can be. In 2016, Bolton was designated as the 48th most deprived area in Britain with more than 17% of children in poverty.
Over the last twelve months, BLGC have had an incredible 119,330 visits and engaged with 6104 young people. Not just a youth centre, they have helped 763 young people graduate from their National Citizens Service Scheme and provided 1:1 mentoring for numerous vulnerable youngsters.
The Momentum team have forged strong connections with the Club and believe that the work done is second to none. With this in mind, they were keen to contribute, knowing that it is fundraising and donations that keeps the doors open for the young people in Bolton.
Solicitor and Managing Director, Asif Timol says “the legal and business world throws many challenges so we decided to set ourselves an altogether different one. Some of the team had to overcome their fear of heights but we were all keen to do this for such a worthy cause”
So on 29th April, Momentum enjoyed a team day out Zip World, Penrhyn Quarry in Wales where they first took in the stunning views from the big top of Velocity, out towards Anglesey with views as far as the Isle of Man. The team then descended down the Big Zipper over the quarry lake, flying head-first, for just under a mile topping speeds of 125mph down a mountain and then straight over a cliff, 500ft above the quarry lake with spectacular views as far out as Ireland!
“It was a fantastic experience and we can’t recommend Zip World enough”, says Asif Timol. “We had a brilliant day out and the fact that we raised over £1200 is amazing. Thank you to everyone who supported us.”
Last week, Kelly McFadden of BLGC invited team Momentum to present the cheque where she revealed that they had topped the amount raised with the final total yet to be confirmed..
