Manchester headquartered OFR Consultants has kicked off the new decade with five new hires within its expanding team. This brings its total number of fire engineers and support staff working across the UK to over 70, demonstrating its strength and expertise in the specialist market.
The business, which was established just under five years ago, has quickly developed into an internationally renowned fire engineering consultancy working on some of the most pioneering global projects including the Google campus in London and the Rothera Research Station in Antarctica.
As well as its Manchester base, OFR’s team consults from a further six offices including London, Bath, Edinburgh and Glasgow.
The new additions to the team include Senior Fire Engineer, Amir Karim who will be based in the London office. Amir, who has undertaken work for Rolls Royce Plc helping to design jet engines as well as five-years with Arup, is a double graduate with both Mechanical Engineering and Advanced Engineering Design degrees to his name.
In the north, Calum Irvine joins the Glasgow office as a Graduate Fire Engineer following the completion of his MEng in Structural and Fire Safety Engineering at the University of Edinburgh.
Whilst in Manchester, the team has welcomed Graduate Fire Engineer Jiang Huang following the completion of his PhD in of fluid-dynamics at the University of Leicester. Here he researched the ‘Numerical Studies of Non-Uniform Density Mixing Layers’ and will bring that specialist knowledge to his new role. Alex Todd is undertaking an internship with OFR whilst also studying his MEng in Mechanical Engineering at The University of Edinburgh and finally, Graduate Fire Engineer, Stephy Tsang joins the team permanently, following her successful internship with the business last year.
OFR director Simon Lay said: “These new appointments demonstrate our incredible growth as a business since we launched in 2016. To go from an initial team of just two to now over 70 people, shows not only the demand that is out there in the construction market for our specialist skills but also how we have developed our reputation as a leading fire engineering consultancy through our work on some of the most exciting projects, both here in the UK and overseas.
“Our initial vision was to create a business whereby we invest in future talent and I am proud that we have consistently maintained our commitment to that by providing great career opportunities for students and recent graduates as well as those with valuable experience. We welcome Amir, Callum, Jiang, Alex and Stephy to our great team and what is set to be another incredible year for OFR.”
