Manchester City Council is in the process of recruiting a Management Contractor for the Our Town Hall Project - a major programme to repair, partially restore and safeguard the iconic Town Hall for current and future generations.
The Our Town Hall Project is a one-off, once in a lifetime undertaking – one of the biggest heritage schemes the country has witnessed for decades. The building, designed in very different times, needs work to bring it up to modern design, access and energy efficiency standards. Albert Square will also be improved to enhance its role as a popular events venue.
In excess of 80 work packages will be available across the six years of the Town Hall project. Covering everything from conservation work on many of the building’s heritage features, to more mainstream construction work, such as mechanical and electrical engineering, pointing or scaffolding, to landscaping and repairing Albert Square. We’re particularly keen to attract local companies to participate in the project.
Manchester City Council is holding an event on Wednesday 28 February at the Town Hall (arrivals from 8am for an 8.30am start and 10.00am finish) allowing businesses to hear presentations from the design team to get a deeper understanding of the varied types of work. There will also be the opportunity for companies to meet with potential management contractors and to network with other suppliers, plus organisations who offer support to SMEs in Greater Manchester.
