On 1st May this year, Smith Goodfellow celebrated 40 years of business as a PR, marketing and creative agency specialising in the construction industry. The ongoing situation with the COVID-19 pandemic has meant their year of birthday celebrations looks quite different from what was originally planned but, true to form, the team got their creative thinking hats on and found new ways to mark the occasion.

“We wanted to celebrate this milestone in a way that contributes something positive to the business community,” says Cathy Barlow, MD, “and provide what support we can to other companies trying to maintain momentum during this uncertain time. We specialise in communication - one of the most powerful tools at any business’s disposal – so we’ve created the Communications Building Blocks series to freely share some of our expertise.”

Developed around common communication issues and questions the Smith Goodfellow team often address with their clients, the Communications Building Blocks series comprises a number of PDF guides exploring the essentials of effective business communication, with practical advice and tips. Whilst Smith Goodfellow specialises in PR and marketing support for businesses within the construction industry, the guides have been written to be applicable to any business, regardless of size or sector. Ranging from internal and crisis communications to how to make the most of key social media platforms, the guides provide concrete steps businesses can take to create a strong foundation for their communications strategy.

This series of free resources will be released in stages, available to download via the Smith Goodfellow website, starting from 1st July. You can sign up to their newsletter to receive email notifications of each new release. In addition to these resources, Smith Goodfellow are also offering discounted PR and marketing services until the end of September 2020. You can find out more by getting in touch.

The Communication Building Blocks aren’t all that the organisation is doing to celebrate. After kicking off the big 40 with an en masse Zoom call to thank their clients, suppliers and team, they launched their #40GoodDeeds campaign, which will underpin a year-long programme of giving back. Starting with running, walking and biking 400 miles in 40 days to raise money for The Trussell Trust, the team plan to carry out 40 good deeds over the next 12 months to support various charities, local businesses and their community. You can follow along with their events on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn and by subscribing to their newsletter.
