The new German ElektroG Act will come into force on 15 August 2018. The Act will introduce a number of changes according to the EU WEEE Directive, notably extending its scope to cover goods with an electrical/electronic function and changes to the categories of equipment to be registered. By law, electrical and electronic goods need to be registered before they can be placed on the German market.
Manufacturers, distributors and importers will need to check if and how their products are affected, as furniture and clothing with an electrical function, such as bathroom cabinets with illuminated mirrors and shoes with light-up soles, may now require registration under the new Act.
