Bolton-based agency Relative Marketing has launched a new website – designed by a talented 21 year-old from Darwen who only joined the agency as an apprentice a little over two years ago (November 2015).
In just two years Joe Swarbrick from Darwen has progressed from Digital Apprentice to Graphic Designer - and now to designing Relative’s new website. Managing Director Robert Barlow says it’s a testament to Joe’s talents and also to how much creative companies can benefit by investing in apprentices like Joe.
Says Robert: “Because we’re a marketing agency our website can’t be just ‘good enough’ – it has to really show prospective clients what we can do. We gave this project to Joe as he is an exceptional talent and we knew he would do a fantastic job. We’re really proud of him and how far he’s come. It really shows how much creative agencies such as ours can benefit by taking on apprentices and giving them the right training and support.”
After a year’s apprenticeship with Relative, Joe became a full time employee in December 2016. Relative invested in Joe by sending him to conferences and funding training to complete his Adobe InDesign qualifications. Says Joe: “I can’t believe how much I have progressed in a short space of time. I have always had an interest in graphic design, but never thought I would be doing it as a career. I was very proud when I was told I was going to be responsible for designing the new site. “I’m very happy with the design and the team certainly seems pleased!”
Adds Joe: “The main aim of the project was to create a platform that best represented the development of the brand and team, and I think the new website does exactly that! I took my inspiration from my peers and other creative platforms. It has been amazing to see the team working hard and finally see the website come to fruition. The experience has been great and I'm looking forward to more creative tasks like this in the future.’
Relative now has a team of nine and the company is looking to expand and move into a new purpose-designed larger space on the top floor of the same Wood Street offices to house its growing team. The company is also looking to recruit at least three new staff this year.
Relative’s clients include bespoke glasshouse companies Hartley Botanic and Gabriel Ash, Tyrers Coaches and insurance brands Stanmore Insurance and dot2dot. Its most recent account win is Bolton-based blinds and awnings company James Robertshaw.
