The Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors has unveiled a crucial investment as part of its ongoing digital transformation journey.

The initiative is firmly in line with the institution's desire for wholesale digital transformation across the entire civil engineering sector, in order to support a construction industry fit for 2050.

The internationally renowned organisation, based in Sale, Greater Manchester, has launched its new look website as part of a £70,000 investment in digital technology and improved ways of working.

A redeveloped website and new database offer a raft of new services to the institution’s 5,000 members as well as access to a diverse and valuable range of training modules.

The platform now allows institution members access to a vast online research library and a range of highly regarded publications, events, the ability to update their profile details and make payments and bookings. The public will be able to freely access publications and book events online.

The role of the institution is to advance the science and art of civil engineering surveying for the benefit of the public, by upholding and advancing the standards of education, competence, practice and conduct of its members.

Simon Hamlyn, CEO at the Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors (CICES), said: “This investment in digital technology is part of our commitment to our members, and members of the public, that they can enjoy complete trust in the civil engineering surveyors of today and into the future

“Everything that people see around them has been built by someone in civil engineering. But
the world is changing, and civil engineers’ ways of working are becoming increasingly digital, so
as an international educational institution we upgrade with them and help them remain current
with digital technologies, including through training and online resources.”

In a detailed research report on digital transformation required across the global industry, published during the summer this year, CICES stated: “The pace of technology development, particularly artificial intelligence, machine learning and data management, means surveying roles will continue to change, requiring different skills.”

Darrell Smart, Operations Director at CICES, said: “We have worked hard to build a new online presence which is fit for the 21st century and which gives our members the easiest and simplest route to their continuous professional development. It provides a comprehensive digital resource for professionals, students and related experts in our sector.”

Members of the public can use the CICES website at www.cices.org to freely access its publications, book tickets to a range of events including the highly popular Manchester Lecture on ‘Levelling Up North West’ taking place in February, hosted jointly by CICES and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.
