Nominate your apprentice for the Steve Burne Apprentice of the Year Award 2025. A prestigious honour recognising exceptional talent, commitment, and future leaders in construction. Finalists receive a share of a £1,000 cash prize.

Now in its 11th year, the Apprentice of the Year Award recognises the contribution, progress, and potential of construction apprentices across Greater Manchester.

Renamed in 2018 in memory of Steve Burne, former Vice-President and Chairman of the Property & Construction Group, the award continues his legacy of championing young talent and nurturing future industry leaders.

The winner will be announced at the Property & Construction Annual Dinner in March 2026.


WHO CAN BE NOMINATED?

This award is open to any construction apprentice in Greater Manchester who is:

  • Working in technical or trade-based roles

  • Currently undertaking a full apprenticeship framework or standard

  • Employed by a construction-related organisation in Greater Manchester

  • Supported by a line manager and training provider willing to contribute to the nomination

HOW THE PROCESS WORKS

A clear, simple four-step pathway:

1. Complete the Nomination Form

Submitted by the line manager, with input from the apprentice’s mentor or training provider.

2. Judging Panel Review

All submissions are reviewed and individually scored by an impartial panel from our construction group.

3. Finalists Announced

Shortlisted apprentices and their line managers will be notified on 4 February 2026.

4. Winner Revealed

The award will be presented at the Property & Construction Annual Dinner on 5 March 2026 at Manchester Hall.

All shortlisted candidates and nominators must attend.

FAQs

Who can submit the nomination?

Anybody in the organisation can submit a nomination however a detailed account of the apprentice's experience and journey therefore we advise a line manager's input

Does the apprentice need to attend the dinner?

Yes. The apprentices will have to be in attendance at the dinner to collect their award and certificates.

How long does the form take?

10 - 15 minutes depending on detail.

Can multiple apprentices be nominated?

Yes.
