Avoira is 50

Avoira celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2026, marking half a century of delivering trusted technology solutions to organisations across the UK. Founded in 1976 as Pennine Communications, the company has evolved from a specialist in two-way radio systems into an integrated provider of audio-visual solutions, unified communications, managed IT, cyber security, critical communications, connectivity and AI-driven analytics.

Over five decades, the business has expanded through the acquisition and integration of respected companies, including Videonations, Co-Channel, Rocom and Yellowbus. In 2019, these businesses came together under the Avoira name, representing its combined strength across Audio-Visual (AV), Voice (Voi) and Radio (Ra).

Today, Avoira’s 150-strong team delivers end-to-end, mission-critical technology solutions that help public and private-sector organisations communicate, collaborate and operate with confidence.

The “One Avoira” approach brings together the company’s specialist divisions to provide a seamless, unified service. Whether deploying a city-wide radio network, supporting a hybrid workplace or modernising a customer contact centre, Avoira is committed to excellence in design, delivery and ongoing support.

At the heart of the organisation are five core values which remain unchanged after 50 years: keep our promises, share our passion, strive for excellence, support our people and dare to challenge. These values shape the company’s culture and guide how it works with customers, partners and communities.

To mark its golden anniversary, Avoira is strengthening its long-standing commitment to social value. This year, the company will donate 50 Amazon Alexa devices to Age Concern, supporting older people who may feel isolated or disconnected from the digital world. Voice-activated devices have been shown to help reduce loneliness, increase confidence and support day-to-day independence.

This sits alongside the company’s ongoing community involvement, which includes providing free Wi-Fi, temporary network links and radio equipment for charities, community events and safety teams.

The milestone also marks two years since Managing Director Dr Andrew Roberts took full ownership of the company. There is an interesting parallel with the well-known Remington story from 1979, when Victor Kiam tried a Remington shaver and was so impressed he went on to buy the company. In a similar spirit, Dr Roberts’ decision to take full ownership reflected a deep belief in Avoira’s people, capability and future potential.

As the pace of technological change accelerates, Avoira continues to support organisations navigating the shift towards AI, hybrid working, cloud services and increasingly sophisticated communication platforms.

Entering its 50th year, the company remains focused on delivering technology that makes a meaningful difference – to the businesses it supports, the communities it serves and the people who rely on its solutions every day.
