As part of our EDI Event Series, we are pleased to introduce our event ‘In Conversation with Geoff Thompson- comfortable in your own skin’
Join Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce with Geoff Thompson, MBE, FRSA, DL, QP JM who has launched his book. The book shows heartfelt tributes highlighted Thompson’s resilience, service, and unwavering commitment to tackling racism, inequality, and disadvantage through the transformative power of sport and culture. Clive Memmott OBE will talk through with Geoff on his journey as a World Champion as a Karate which provided himself protection within hostile environments but also a life of discipline and empowerment.
Geoff’s later work, campaigning for the role of sport for social change, serving seven Prime Ministers, and advising on youth development, emerged from this conviction.
Another powerful motivation lies in Geoff’s political and social activism. The riots of the 1980s, the rise of the National Front, and my later involvement in international struggles from post-apartheid South Africa to Manchester’s ganglands placed Geoff at the heart of civil rights battles.
Networking opportunities and refreshments provided.
