The Chamber’s Local Skills Improvement Plan (LSIP) team has produced a series of reports analysing the economic landscape of each borough in Greater Manchester.
As part of its work on the GM LSIP – gathering data and intelligence about skills shortages and labour market issues across all sectors and boroughs of GM - the team has collated information about high-demand roles, analysed the major investment projects taking place in each borough, and listed the jobs that will be created as a result of these developments.
By highlighting the interplay between development initiatives, potential growth in sectoral employment and skills requirements, one of the aims of these reports is to help inform strategic workforce planning at the local authority level.
Commenting on the Local Reports, Subrahmaniam Krishnan-Harihara, deputy director of research at Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce, said:
“This series of reports is a vital output from the research conducted for developing and implementing the GM LSIP and is positioned as a resource for local stakeholders to inform their strategic planning. Each of the ten reports provides an evidence-based overview of expected labour market shifts, highlighting where job demand is likely to grow and where potential skills gaps may arise.
“We anticipate that for colleges and independent training providers, the reports will serve as a valuable reference point for curriculum planning, although the insights should be used to inform long-term curriculum planning and ensure that training programmes evolve in line with broader economic trends and emerging labour requirements.”
Along with information on investment projects taking place in each borough, the reports highlight key employment data, highlighting the sectors with the most employees in each area and the contribution of each sector to the area’s GVA.
The team has also analysed the qualification levels of the economically active population in each borough.
