Company: Greater Manchester Blood Bikes

Greater Manchester Blood Bikes is a registered charity 1201009 founded in October 2022 and operational since January 1st 2023.

Since then the demand for our service has grown quickly from 2568 jobs in our first year and 4214 jobs in our second year of operation 2024.

This year we look set to reach 5,000 jobs helping the NHS hospitals and hospices around the region.

Did you know that Blood bike volunteers deliver over 85% of all the donor breast milk delivered to premature babies in Neonatal departments across the UK?

Greater Manchester Blood Bikes collects from donor Mums across the region and delivers to the Milk Bank at Chester, bringing processed and screened milk back to our regional hub at Wythenshawe, before it is delivered to Nicu’s all across the Greater Manchester region on demand by our wonderful volunteers.

We deliver blood daily to the North West Air Ambulance to support the wonderful life saving work they do across the region too.

In recent months medication has increased too as we deliver to hospices, between hospitals and to those who are housebound or have just left hospital to return home.

Our team of unpaid volunteer drivers , riders , fundraisers and duty controllers has grown to over 100 strong as the demand increases and we are looking for more volunteers.

Perhaps you would like to join us?

You don’t have to ride a motorcycle or drive a car to help.

Our duty controllers take calls from the hospitals and despatch our riders and drivers with the blood, tracking them and ensuring that they stay safe and deliver our precious cargoes.

Could you help ?

At present we operate a fleet of 7 motorcycles, 4 cars and a van to carry out our vital work saving the NHS money which they can then redirect into patient care.

We enjoy wonderful support from some businesses and the Mancunian public which enables us to continue our work as we receive no funding from government.
