Xaverian College is celebrating a remarkable achievement at the Greater Manchester School Climbing Championship, held on 19th March at Rock Over Climbing in Central Manchester. Five talented students represented the College in the Sixth Form category and delivered outstanding performances, securing multiple podium finishes.
Leading the charge was Joe Badham, who claimed first place in the Men’s Sixth Form category, closely followed by teammate Theo Agnew, who took second place in a highly competitive field. In the Women’s Sixth Form category, Beth Bradley also shone brightly, achieving joint first place, further highlighting the strength and depth of Xaverian’s climbing squad.
Also competing with distinction were Oliver Nausa-Pinnington, who placed a commendable 11th place in the Men’s Sixth Form category, and Tyla McEachern, who just missed the podium with an impressive 4th place finish in the Women’s Sixth Form category.
Tyla, former pupil of Ashton on Mersey School and currently studying A Levels in Biology, Chemistry and Classical Civilisation, said: “I’ve really enjoyed myself the last few times I’ve done the competition, it’s fun and everyone is so kind there. I felt very supported the whole time by the rest of the team and the other competitors.
“I finished two points behind one of my friends, who gained 3rd place, but a bit of friendly competition is always great. It’s also been nice to climb on behalf of Xaverian as you get to meet with and learn from new people.”
Joshua Poke, Sports Technician, who accompanied the students at the competition, commented: “We’re incredibly proud of all five students. Their determination, teamwork, and composure under pressure really stood out on the day. To bring home three podium spots in such a competitive event speaks volumes about their hard work and talent.”
The College is looking forward to building on this success in future competitions and continuing to support students through sport and adventure-based enrichment.
