With the government renewing its focus on construction a number of members in the Property and Construction sector have highlighted the increased lead times when applications are going to the Building Safety Regulator and the significant impact these are having due to excessive delays and potential cost implications.

Latest information shows that the average lead time for applications in London is now 48 weeks and outside the capital anytime up to 43 weeks.

This is a result of greater emphasis on building safety especially with High Rise Buildings post-Grenfell and whilst safety concerns must remain a top priority many in the sector are keen to see an increase in the speed that applications are processed. Government is aware of this issue and is beginning to take active steps towards a resolution but the Chamber is interested to hear from anyone affected by this and more importantly any ideas or possible solutions to help government resolve the situation quicker and more effectively without compromising any safety aspects.
